The Pleasure of Reading/Gost il-Qari is a family literacy programme for children aged 7 to 11 years together with their parents/guardians. The programme consists of one-hour reading sessions which are held once a week. These sessions are held in primary schools and in the community.
Each session features the sharing of stories from a variety of books, and other fun activities for this age group. Besides enhancing the listener’s reading, the animated reading session provides a means for passing on information, identifying with and empathising with others. The Reading Animator colours the way the listener shapes the story, uses rich oral language, and allows participating children to express themselves by creating a play and multisensory experience. The children understand that the story has a sequence of events where a problem is posed, and consequently, together as a group they try to solve the problem by finding solutions through discussion and role play.
